Summary of the Truly Agreed Version of the Bill

HCS SB 749 -- EFFECTIVE DATES OF LAWS

Under current law, a bill vetoed by the Governor becomes
effective immediately if the General Assembly votes to override
the veto. This bill provides that vetoed bills become effective
30 days after the General Assembly votes to override.

Due to a 1928 decision of the Missouri Supreme Court, initiative
petitions become effective on the date approved by the voters.
Issues submitted to the voters, whether by the General Assembly
or by initiative petition filed after January 1, 2003, must
contain an effective date.
